College Football Power Rankings (Week Nine)

Here is my new top 25. There is not much change at the top:

1. (Last week: 1) Alabama
Alabama’s next three games are against top 25 teams.

2. (2) Oregon
The Ducks had another easy win.

3. (3) Kansas State
After their blowout win at West Virginia, I have a tough time seeing K-State losing one of their last five games. Their toughest test of the five is this coming weekend against Texas Tech.

4. (4) Florida
Florida obliterated South Carolina 44-11.

5. (5) Notre Dame
It wasn’t pretty, but Notre Dame got by BYU. Next up, a road tilt with Oklahoma.

6. (6) Oklahoma
Speaking of the Sooners, they have only played in one close game: the narrow loss to K-State.

7. (7) LSU
The Tigers’ schedule is absurd. After consecutive games against Florida, South Carolina, and Texas A&M, they play their next two games against Alabama (after a bye week) and Mississippi State.

8. (8) Florida State
The computers may hate the Seminoles, but I think they may be the most physically impressive team in the whole country.

9.  (10) Clemson
It is fair to say that Clemson has Virginia Tech’s number.

10. (11) Oregon State
The Beavers still do not really have a marquee win.

11. (12) USC
For the Trojans, Oregon looms in two weeks.

12. (14) Mississippi State
The (relatively) untested Bulldogs now head to Tuscaloosa to take on No. 1 Alabama.

13. (13) Ohio State
On the road at Penn State, the Buckeyes will have their hands full.

14. (16) Louisville
The Cardinals next play a huge Big East game against Cincinnati.

15. (9) South Carolina
The Gamecocks did not put up much of a fight against Florida.

16. (15) Georgia
I generally do not lower teams after wins but I decided to with Georgia because they stunk against Kentucky and because their blowout loss to South Carolina looks even worse now.

17. (17) Rutgers
The Scarlet Knights beat Temple 35-0 in the second half of their game.

18. (18) Michigan
The Wolverines managed to beat Michigan State despite a poor offensive showing.

19. (22) Stanford
If they score 20 points, they are usually in a good position to win.

20. (21) Texas Tech
It took Tech three overtimes to get by TCU.

21. (23) NC State
The Wolfpack needed a lot of luck to get out of College Park with a win.

22. (20) Texas A&M
The Aggies came very close to knocking off LSU.

23. (Not Ranked) Toledo
The Rockets had just enough defense to shock Cincinnati.

24. (25) Boise State
This is Boise’s worst team in years.

25. Nebraska (NR)
Nebraska looked good against Northwestern.
