It is the final day of February, which means… March Madness is very near. Here are a few notes on what has been a wacky week thus far and some of tonight’s intriguing matchups.
-Arizona is having issues at the moment. The Wildcats have lost three out of their last six and let up 89 points to a bad USC team last night in an 89-78 loss.
-What happened to South Florida? The Bulls, who made the NCAAs last year with many of the same faces, are 10-17 and have not won since mid-January.
-Maryland continues to be an enigma. The Terps, who already boast wins over NC State and Duke, lost to Georgia Tech last night.
-Akron is a team to watch. Last night, the 23-4 Zips beat 20-8 Ohio for the second time this year, pulling off an impressive come-from-behind, overtime victory.
-Miami certainly was not looking ahead to their big duel with Duke, as they dominated V-Tech last night.
-It would be hard for Duke to look ahead, as they face a good UVA team tonight capable of giving Duke a very tough game.
-Gonzaga faces their final real test of the regular season tonight. They will play at BYU.
-Even after their recent win over Florida, I’m not sold on Missouri. They will have a chance to win their first SEC road game of the year (their win at 7-20 Mississippi State doesn’t count in my book) tonight at South Carolina in what will be a big game for their chances of making the Tourney.
